Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello provided context, revealing that Major-General Fred Kekana, one of the police members, encountered a security officer while attempting to enter a residential estate in Westonaria. Postbank has clarified that the technical issues causing social grant beneficiaries to be without funds were not the result of a cyber attack on their systems. This glitch left many individuals, particularly those in dire need, unable to access their grants from ATMs, post offices, or retailers.

Dr. Bongani Diako, Postbank spokesperson, assured that the problem was being resolved, allowing people to withdraw their grants from ATMs and post offices. Diako expressed hope that retailers would soon be able to resume grant payments as well.
