Chatsworth SASSA Office Closure. The Chatsworth Service Centre, housing the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) Chatsworth local office, has been deemed unsafe for occupation. Immediate action has been taken by the Department of Labour under section 30 of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act of 1993, resulting in the issuance of three prohibition notices.

Prohibition Notices Details

The prohibition notices issued by the Department of Labour include:

  1. Structural Integrity: Access to the premises is restricted until the building’s structural integrity is certified as safe by a structural engineer.
  2. Electrical Safety: Use of electricity is prohibited until a valid electrical certificate of compliance is issued by a registered person.
  3. Health and Hygiene: Entry into the premises is restricted until all health and hygiene issues are addressed, and remedial action is taken to eliminate hazards.

In light of the closure, Sassa urges clients to utilize alternative service points, including:

  • Umlazi
  • Wentworth
  • Pinetown
  • Durban

Additionally, clients can access Sassa services online through the portal services.sassa.gov.za for various social grant applications.

Thamo Mzobe, the regional executive manager, expressed apologies for any inconvenience caused during this period. The agency is diligently working to secure alternative accommodation to ensure the uninterrupted provision of services for the people of Chatsworth.
