Steps To Take If Your Sassa Card Is Expiring
Among the groups eligible for such grants are those who need a disability grant, an older persons grant, a child support grant, a war veteran grant, and a care dependency grant, among others.
- Sassa/PostBank gold cards expire on 31 March 2023, so you’ll need a new one.
How to get a new SASSA gold card
On Mondays and Tuesdays, you will need to visit your nearest South African Post Bank (SAPO) branch to apply for Older Persons and Disability related grants. Your card can then be exchanged. The process began on 13 March 2023.
Visit your nearest SAPO branch on Wednesdays and Saturdays to apply for Child Support grants and other grants. On 15 March 2023, Sassa beneficiaries receiving Child Support grants and other grants began the process of renewing their cards.
You will also need to collect your replacement Sassa card from a SAPO branch if you lose or misplace your expiring Sassa card.

- Your Identity Document
- Your expiring Sassa/PostBank gold card
Replacement/new cards will only be issued at SAPO branches to the person whose name the expiring card is issued in or to those who have been registered as procurators with Sassa.
SASSA gold cards expiring in March 2023 will need to be renewed only at SAPO branches this month. Dates and processes will be announced at a later date if your card expires later in the year.
An appeal can be submitted if your Sassa grant application has been declined.
