NSFAS Says We Are Working On Fixing the New Direct Payment Issues
Following discussions with the South African Union of Students, NSFAS has taken steps to implement some of the union’s recommendations. In response to weeks of student complaints, NSFAS reports that 75% of beneficiaries have been successfully registered on the new bank account system. Efforts are underway to ensure that the remaining students are registered by the end of July.
Protests Continue at the Tshwane University of Technology
However, protests continue at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), where students argue that the rushed implementation of the new system has resulted in glitches. They advocate for TUT to be exempted from the system until next year to prevent disadvantaged students from being left without their allowances.
NSFAS acknowledges that unexpected glitches may occur with any new system. Nonetheless, it assures students that it is committed to ensuring a smooth process for all beneficiaries.
