Types of Grants Handled by SASSA

Sassa manages approximately 19 million permanent grant payments each month, covering a range of grants such as Older Persons pension, Disability, War Veterans, Care Dependency, Foster Child, Child Support, Child Support Top-Up, and Grant-in-aid. Additionally, around nine million people receive the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, providing crucial financial support to unemployed adults in South Africa.

March 2024 Grant Payment Status

While permanent grant payments for March 2024 have already been processed in the first week of the month, SRD grant payments are still pending. These payments are scheduled to be disbursed during the final week of March. However, due to Sassa’s policies, the timeframe for SRD grant payments will be shorter this March.

Easter Weekend Grant Disbursement

Sassa grants will not be paid out over the Easter weekend due to the agency’s payment policy, which excludes payments on weekends or public holidays. Since there is a public holiday at the end of March, grants will not be distributed during that time.

SRD Grant Payment Schedule

SRD grant payments for March are scheduled to occur between 25 March 2024 and 29 March 2024. These payments are typically made during the final week of the month after Sassa completes necessary verification checks to ensure eligibility for recipients.
