Seven Individuals Arrested with 148 Sassa Cards and R45,000 in Bloemhof.In a significant operation conducted in Bloemhof, North West, law enforcement agencies have apprehended seven individuals on charges of possessing 148 South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) cards and a substantial sum of R45,000 in cash.

This operation was a collaborative effort involving the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, popularly known as the Hawks, working alongside the National Credit Regulator (NCR) and the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). The charges brought against the suspects stem from their alleged violation of the National Credit Act 34 of 2005.
Uncovering the Alleged Misconduct
The Hawks’ spokesperson in the North West, Captain Tlangelani Rikhotso, revealed that the operation was initiated based on intelligence received regarding the suspects’ purported illegal activities. These individuals were reported to frequently withdraw grant funds from their clients’ accounts using various ATMs in the Bloemhof area, which led to their apprehension.
Significant Seizures
During the course of these arrests, law enforcement confiscated a substantial amount of evidence. This included over R45,000 in cash, along with 148 Sassa cards and 83 bank cards, among others. These seizures constitute essential evidence in building a case against the accused individuals.
Legal Proceedings Underway
The arrested individuals are scheduled to make their appearances in the Bloemhof Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where the legal process will begin to address their alleged involvement in this illicit activity.
Separate Case: Motor Vehicle Theft Arrests in Mpumalanga
In a separate incident in Mpumalanga, police authorities successfully arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of a motor vehicle. The stolen vehicle in question was identified as a Toyota Corolla.
Cracking the Vehicle Theft Case
Colonel Donald Mdhluli reported that police had been actively pursuing leads after receiving information about a stolen vehicle from Mzinoni. The stolen vehicle was eventually spotted in the Morgenzon area, leading to the apprehension of the two male suspects, identified as Lindokuhle Msibi, aged 27, and Njambulo Sibande, aged 29.
Legal Proceedings for Vehicle Theft Suspects
The apprehended suspects were promptly charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. They appeared in court on Tuesday, and their case has been postponed until September 12 to allow for a formal bail application process.
