The Trevor Noah Foundation/YALI RLC-South Africa Education Changemakers Programme: Cohort 3 Application

A new generation of young African champions for education quality is being developed through a partnership between the Trevor Noah Foundation and the Young African Leaders Initiative Regional Leadership Center Southern Africa (YALI RLC-SA).

The Trevor Noah Foundation/YALI RLC-South Africa Education Changemakers Programme: Cohort 3 Application

Two phases of the program will be implemented: 1) four weeks of intensive classroom training focused on foundation leadership skills and business and public institution management tools for the education sector; and 2) six months of coaching and mentoring after graduation. A highly interactive methodology will also be used in the programme, including site visits and live case studies.

In Midrand, South Africa, the University of South Africa’s Graduate School of Business Leadership hosts the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders.

As a non-profit organization, the Trevor Noah Foundation empowers underserved youth to become resilient future leaders of South Africa.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  •  Leaders between the ages of 18 and 35
  •  Demonstrated commitment to positively impacting their communities, countries, and continents
  •  Experience in the education sector or involvement in it
  • They are residents of Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Eswatini, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
  •  Commitment to a four-week residential training program
  •  Proficiency in English

The program encourages applications from:

  • Principals, teachers, education entrepreneurs and policymakers who are young African leaders in the education sector
  • Young leaders from rural areas who are economically disadvantaged
  • Leaders with disabilities in the youth sector
  • HIV-positive and AIDS-positive individuals
  • Those who advocate for the rights of LGBTI communities in the region
  • Minority groups in other countries

Participation in the programme is free of charge. Transportation to and from the program, lodging, meals, and course materials will be provided to successful applicants. Participants are responsible for all other costs.

At the Regional Leadership Center in Midrand, South Africa, participants must attend all sessions in person.
