In advance of the academic year, the Department of Higher Education and Training announced that registration deadlines will be extended to accommodate first-time students entering higher education institutions. However, every institution has its own registration period that students should be aware of.

Some universities or colleges extend registration to accommodate late registrations or those having trouble registering.

Unisa followed suit by extending the deadline for first semester registration for undergraduate qualifications, honours degrees, and postgraduate diplomas to 10 February 2023.Due to the late registrations, some students were unable to begin their studies and submit their first assignment.

However, the university has announced the following In a statement:

  • As per the institutional provision regarding late registrations, affected students will be accommodated with regards to assignment one submissions.

In order to avoid further extensions, students are encouraged to submit their first assignment as soon as possible.Students who have already submitted their initial assignment are exempt from this requirement, according to Unisa.

A student can only register at Unisa and another university at the same time if their qualification at Unisa is for Non-Degree Purposes, and if they have written permission from the other university to do so.

Unisa should have received the written permission along with the application and registration. The registration period for postgraduate studies, including honours degrees, postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees and doctoral degrees, is still open until 31 March 2023.
